HALO Laser Treatment

With laser treatments, you need to choose between ablative and non-ablative procedures. Now you can have both at the same time, reaping the benefits of the different approaches, all in a single procedure.

This is the HALO Hybrid Fractional Laser, the world’s first hybrid fractional laser. Winner of tons of awards when it debuted in 2018, we offer HALO treatments at The Stern Center.

How is HALO different than other Fractional laser treatments?

To achieve ablative laser procedures, such as fractional resurfacing, you use one wavelength. The same for non-ablative skin rejuvenation. With HALO, we can deliver both at the same time for our Stern Center patients.

One laser targets the epidermis, the skin’s outer layer. The second laser creates fractional channels into the dermis, the skin’s second layer. This is especially effective for removing sun damage, both the damage you can see in age spots and the like and other damage you can’t see.

What are the benefits of a HALO treatment?

Long-term sun exposure, active lifestyles, and the wear and tear of everyday life take a toll on our skin, leading to sagging, wrinkles and creases, areas of pigmentation, and an overall older appearance. HALO is meant to address this damage. Because it combines non-ablative energy and mildly ablative energy, it isn’t a harsh treatment that leaves your skin damaged and red. The energy delivered into the epidermis is absorbed by sun-damaged areas, causing pigment from the damaged skin to rise to the surface and peel off within a few days. The energy delivered into the dermis triggers collagen remodeling and skin regeneration, improving the skin from beneath.

The HALO system also continually monitors the temperature of the skin, and it has an integrated cooling system that keeps you comfortable.

What skin problems does HALO treat?

  • Areas of pigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Visible signs of aging
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Enlarged pores
  • Poor texture
  • Fine lines
  • Acne scarring

What is a HALO Laser treatment like?

When you come into our Bellevue offices, we first apply topical numbing cream. This will take about 40 minutes to fully take effect. To start your treatment, we first measure your face with HALO’s motion-tracking technology. This ensures that all of your skin receives equal laser energy, which can be a problem with other procedures where the aesthetician has to track the areas covered. The HALO handpiece is then rolled over each section of your facial skin until all areas have been covered, which is verified by the motion-tracking sensor. The procedure is not painful, with patients equating it to a slight prickling sensation. The topical anesthetic combined with HALO’s integrated cooling technology keeps you comfortable. After your treatment, your skin continues to feel warm for 15-30 minutes, or somewhat longer with deeper treatment levels.

What results can I expect from a HALO Laser treatment?

Thanks to its delivery of the two laser wavelengths, HALO provides complete skin rejuvenation. You will see a significant removal of age spots, areas of uneven pigmentation, and other sun damage. The overall tone and texture will improve. You’ll also see a reduction in fine lines, reduced pore size, and an overall improvement in your skin’s vibrancy. These are dramatic improvements that would typically take at least a couple of different types of treatments.

How many Laser treatments will I need?

Your amount of sun damage is really what dictates what you’ll want to achieve with our HALO sessions at The Stern Center. Treatments can be more aggressive or less aggressive depending on your timeframe and how many sessions you would like to have.

How long will it be before I see results?

Initial results from HALO will begin to show themselves in just 2-5 days after your session. Initially many of your sun damage spots will darken before they begin to peel away. This is a response to the wavelength targeting the epidermis, and your pigmentation will improve over the first 2-3 weeks. Beyond that, the energy targeting the dermis will lead to a phase of dermal regeneration that will continue for months. This is the delivery of new collagen and elastin that occurs with the body’s classic “wound response.” Of course, there aren’t any actual wounds.

How long will my results last?

HALO’s hybrid laser energy removes age spots, areas of hyperpigmentation, and other sun-damaged skin. These are permanent changes. Of course, you can develop new sunspots and the like if you don’t respect your skin. You’ll be amazed at the difference, and as long as you protect your skin from UV damage your results will endure.

Is there recovery after a HALO Laser treatment?

Your skin will feel warm, usually for about 30 minutes after your HALO treatment. If we target a little deeper, this can last a little longer. You need to keep your skin protected and calm for the first day after your treatment, but you should be able to go about your regular activities. Don’t use makeup for the first day. That’s about it. You’ll have some light peeling in three or four days, as mentioned above, but there isn’t really any recovery time with HALO.
