What is Kybella?
Kybella® is the first and only FDA approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin and improves your profile. If you have a “fullness” under your chin with a mild amount of skin laxity, and do not want surgery, Kybella® might be the solution for you! Injected directly into the fat pad, Kybella® dissolves the fat cells, resulting in a gradual reduction in the “double chin.” The number of injections required varies with each person and are typically spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart.
A better and more recommended alternative to Kybella is Laser-Assisted Liposuction. This treatment not only removes the double chin, but also tightens the skin unlike Kybella.
Is Kybella Safe?
Yes, Kybella® is safe to have as it is an FDA-approved treatment. It is used to help mitigate the amount of fat located within the chin area. However, it is not currently known if it is safe for people aged 18 and under.
What Are The Potential Side Effects of Kybella?
Despite the success rate of Kybella®, it is not completely risk-free.
Below is a list of the potential risks and side effects from getting Kybella®:
- You experience bruising or swelling near the injection site.
- The injection site feels numb.
- The cellular tissue death.
- You have problems swallowing.
- Your facial muscles feel weak.
- There is nerve injury in the jaw.
- Your smile may appear uneven.
It is normal to experience a few mild side effects after receiving Kybella treatment. However, if you start having side effects, such as drainage, the formation of open sores, or necrosis, contact your doctor immediately.
How Many Kybella Treatments Will I Need?
The amount of Kybella® sessions you need will depend on your current chin profile and the specialized treatment plan the plastic surgeon makes for you. During each session, you will receive multiple small injections in the chin area. You can have up to six treatments that are spaced one month apart.
Is Kybella An Alternative To Liposuction?
Yes, Kybella® is considered to be an alternative to liposuction. Laser-assisted liposuction surgically removes any excess fat within these target areas, while simultaneously tightening the skin.
Kybella® is approved by the FDA as a safe, non-invasive treatment for double chin. Many people looking to have fat removed from their neck and jawline are often torn between which option is best for them.
Both treatments offer patients permanent results.
Who Are The Best Candidates For Kybella?
The best candidates for Kybella® are people who have unwanted fat within their chin area. Anyone who is unable to undergo a submental liposuction procedure are also ideal candidates. However, Kybella® treatment is not for anyone who is currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
