WHAT IS JUVÉDERM?
JUVÉDERM® is the most popular dermal filler collection available today. Each product contains hyaluronic acid, or HA, a naturally occurring substance that helps skin look plump and healthy. FDA-approved Juvéderm fillers are perfect for enhancing your facial features and improving signs of aging. They add volume under the skin for a more youthful and defined appearance. Not only are the treatments quick, but they also offer immediate, long-lasting results.
Dr. Stern often uses JUVÉDERM® to instantly smooth away wrinkles around the mouth and nose. With just one treatment, most patients get smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year.
Who Is a Candidate for Juvéderm?
Juvéderm fillers work best for people who want to restore facial volume that they’ve lost to aging. They’re also a great fit for those interested in smoothing lines and wrinkles, softening creases, or improving the contours of their chin or cheeks.
Here are some considerations to keep in mind when deciding if this treatment is right for you. You must be at least 21 years of age to be a candidate for Juvéderm. And you shouldn’t receive Juvéderm if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.
Types of Juvéderm Treatments We Offer
Each Juvéderm filler was created with a specific use in mind. They vary in terms of formula, properties, and longevity. We carry the following types of Juvéderm fillers at our practice:
- Juvéderm® Ultra XC: Designed for injection into the lips, this filler is a great choice for patients interested in lip augmentation. It works whether your lips have thinned over time or you’d just like them to be fuller. Juvéderm Ultra XC is also approved to correct moderate to severe parentheses lines for a more refreshed appearance that lasts up to one year.
- Juvéderm® Vollure™ XC: Ideal for softening lines around the mouth and nose, this filler can be used on many different areas of the face to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles. It supports smoother and more youthful-looking skin for up to 18 months.
- Juvéderm® Volbella™ XC: This injectable gel is meant to be used on the lips to subtly enhance their shape and size, as well as above the lips to smooth the appearance of vertical lines, often called perioral lines or lipstick lines. Results can last up to one year.
- Juvéderm® Voluma™ XC: For those looking to add shape and definition to their facial features, this filler is a perfect match. It is designed to augment the chin area, providing a more flattering profile for up to a year. It also works well on the cheeks. Juvéderm Voluma XC reverses age-related midface volume loss for a lifted and contoured look that can last up to two years.
How does Juvederm Ultra XC differ from other dermal fillers?
The Juvederm XC family of fillers all contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that delivers volume to the skin to reduce wrinkles, enhance contours and restore a natural more youthful appearance. These long-acting fillers include Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus, Vollure, Voluma and Volbella, each one customized for different areas of the face.

How Is the Juvéderm Procedure Performed?
Dr. Fredric Stern and our injection nurse Karen personally perform all Juvéderm injections at our practice. We begin by cleansing your skin with alcohol or an antiseptic, then slowly inject the filler, massaging the area gently to reduce swelling and ensure an even distribution of product.
In most cases, we will administer several injections per treatment area to create a seamless result. The actual treatment can take between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on which areas you want to address.
Most patients find that the process is very tolerable. Juvéderm fillers contain pain-relieving lidocaine to rapidly numb the area and minimize discomfort. We also use topical anesthetic and a Zimmer chilling machine to help numb the treatment area beforehand, making your injection as comfortable as possible.
Are There Any Risks Involved With Juvéderm?
It’s normal to experience mild swelling and bruising after receiving Juvéderm. Other temporary side effects may include redness, tenderness, lumps and bumps, and itching at the injection site. Following our pre- and post-treatment instructions is a simple way to minimize your risk of side effects.
More serious complications, while possible, are usually associated with poor injection technique. That’s why it’s important to choose a skilled provider. Dr. Fredric Stern has been safely performing Botox and facial filler treatments since 1994 and is among the top injectors in the state of Washington. Dr. Stern was also one of the original Botox and dermal filler instructors in the U.S. and has personally trained our injection nurse, Karen to perform these procedures using his same techniques.
What Should I Expect From My Juvéderm Results?
Juvéderm fillers add instant volume, definition, and lift to your face. However, it can take a few weeks to see the final outcome due to swelling and bruising. Make sure to leave enough time between your appointment and the next big event on your social calendar. Because Juvéderm fillers contain a special cross-linked form of hyaluronic acid, it takes some time for your body to break them down. Depending on the details of your treatment, your results can last up to two years after just one appointment. Rest assured that Juvéderm can be dissolved if you don’t love your new look.
